Should you use Sign Language with your Non-verbal Child?
There is some controversy with teaching non-verbal children with apraxia sign language or other alternative methods of communication; some experts argue that the children will become dependant on using sign language and not be motivated to learn to speak or that they should focus on learning to speak and not spend time learning signs.
In toddlers when frustration rises, so do temper tantrums. Some of this comes from knowing what they want, just not being able to communicate it to you. Having a child with apraxia compounds the problem as they are often difficult to understand.
To find out the best methods to understanding your non-verbal child, I highly recommend my eBook, "Apraxia Explained".
